Alopecia

Alopecia

“Hair loss “has many different causes and patterns and may be an outward sign of internal disease. Evaluation requires a food history, medication review, examination for hair breakage, scalp skin abnormalities, patterns of hair loss, family history, etc. Treatments may include use of topical minoxidil, topical or intralesional steroids, oral minoxidil, spironolactone, finasteride, dutasteride, in addition to some OTC supplements. A relatively new category of medications, JAK inhibitors, has opened up treatment opportunities for an autoimmune type of alopecia called alopecia areata.
